Prof. Dev. Mentoring Consultations
What we do
Thirty plus years of working in the early childhood field has resulted in a mass of knowledge and ideas that we want to share with others - teachers, childcare providers, education specialists, and others who care about and for young children. We hope to provide inspiration!
Our topics are gateways to explore how children learn through play and how instructors, teachers, caregivers and parents can best serve the developmental needs of the children in their lives.
Knowledge grows, when children have the time and space to explore and make discoveries about interesting objects and ideas, they incorporate new learning with old.
We invite you to sample the content of one of our training sessions.

2025 Wonder Room Trainings:
Exploring Process Art: We'll talk about why process art is necessary- and the most developmentally appropriate way to engage children. We will discuss how to set up your art activities to best encourage creativity, deep thinking, fine motor skills, vocabulary, conversation, and an appreciation for art made by themselves and others.
Loose Parts Play: A popular way to engage a mixed-age group of learners is through utilizing loose parts. We’ll share ideas of items to collect and how to set up the invitation for children to use them. We will examine your role as the educator/facilitator and discuss how observation and documentation of the children’s experiences are essential to extending play.
Small World Play: Young children love to create small worlds where they can make up stories, work out scenarios from their own lives, or explore something new. During this interactive workshop, we will share lots of ideas that can easily be used in homes and classrooms to enhance what children are already doing, as well as introduce new scenes. Participants will brainstorm together and discuss developmentally appropriate ways to use small world play to encourage higher level thinking and deep and focused play. We will examine your role as the educator/facilitator and discuss how observation and documentation of the children’s experiences are essential to extending play.
Alone, In Pairs and In Groups: The NYS Early Learning Guidelines mark approaches to learning and emerging social emotional skill development as crucial domains in the early childhood years. By creating an environment with ample opportunity for children to choose whether to work alone, in pairs and in groups, we can ensure that children develop these important skills at their own pace and in their own ways.
